2011 Mission Trip to New Orleans Was a Success!
Thank you for your support and prayers! Our missioners (Sydney, Lexi, Hayley, Chris, Kelli, Harry, Catherine, Michel, and Anna) traveled to New Orleans from June 17th-26th, 2011. They partnered with churches from around our own diocese to support a wide variety of mission and relief efforts in the Diocese of Louisiana.

A Reflection on the 2011 Mission Trip
Nine more people survived the annual mission trip! But more than survive, we thrived. We set off as missionaries, intending to help others, but instead had our lives transformed through an enhanced relationship with others and the God who is merciful enough to enable us to serve Him.
I guess Jesus meant it when he said, "If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it." (Matthew 10:39.) We served through rebuilding houses and schools, and helping middle school youth in a summer enrichment program.
But more than give, we received. Southern hospitality is truly Matthew 10:40 in action! "Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me."
Throughout the week, we were welcomed by Episcopal churches in the area who fed us and invited us into their sanctuaries. We heard and learned from individuals who have demonstrated the courage to persevere despite grim circumstances. The people who were struck by Katrina reminded me of the children I met in Juarez, Mexico. Not because they were poor but because they lost everything, and in losing everything many of them gained the only thing that matters: a thriving relationship with Jesus Christ. So although there is a lot of work still to be done in New Orleans, it was powerful to see what Jesus is doing in the broken circumstances. He truly is moving through the Church and the people of New Orleans.
I feel so blessed to have been a part of the transformation of New Orleans and I’d like to invite you to also be a part of that movement. Even if you didn’t go on the trip and can’t in the future, helping to sponsor the trip and more importantly praying for the people of New Orleans is the most powerful action of all.
