Upcoming Events

Acolytes Wanted! If your child is at least 8 years old and would like to help out with services, have them become an acolyte. Acolytes bring a special meaning to the service and this is a great way for our younger members to get more involved here at St. Luke’s. If you are interested in becoming an acolyte for St. Luke’s, please contact Mary Matsutani at 970-689-3791 for more info.

Lay Intercessory Prayer

This ministry at St. Luke’s involves members of the congregation acting as Lay Prayer Intercessors during Holy Communion every Sunday. Each intercessor has been trained to receive the concerns and thanksgivings of parishioners seeking prayer support. Requests for blessings and/or God's grace and guidance are received at St. Claire's Oratory (where the prayer candles and icons are at the rear of the nave). Every request is listened to with sensitivity and in strictest confidence.

One member of the Intercessory team serves at the 8:00 am service and two members serve late service petitioners.

We welcome anyone, who may feel called to be an intercessor, to be part of this sacred ministry. You will be scheduled to serve once a month following a brief training session. Please call Bev Newton Moore at 970-484-1195 for more information.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is assists the clergy and parish by providing for furnishings and decorations for all services and by caring for the vestments, linens and vessels used in these services. At St. Luke’s, the Altar Guild works as four teams, rotating weekly. Each team meets on Friday or Saturday to do cleaning and serves at the Sunday and weekday services of their respective weeks. If you are interested please contact Jana Parker (or on the phone at 970-225-9926) or Mildred Weidemann (or on the phone at 970-266-9330) and your name will be forwarded to the rector.

Acolytes

The Church term definition for Acolyte is "one who serves the priest or priests in the sanctuary."

The Ministry of Acolytes has a very important role during the worship services at St. Luke’s. This role takes on an understanding of respect, reverence and responsibility and is important for the success of the ministry. Any child between the ages of 8 and 18 may become an acolyte with the proper training. Years of service and knowledge of the four levels offers the acolyte to grow in their service to God. The first position is Torch Bearer, then Second Server, followed by Clergy Cross and lastly First Server. Feast Days require other positions such as kite flyer, banner, flag bearers, thurifer and boat.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact Mary Matsutani at 970-689-3791 or Jana Parker at 970-225-9926.

Eucharistic Ministers

At St. Luke’s, the Eucharistic Ministers assist with worship by leading portions of the service as well as administering the chalice. If your feel called to serve in this important ministry or if you would like more information on this ministry and the training for it please contact Carol McNamee.

Eucharistic Visitors

Eucharistic Visitors bring Communion to members of our parish family who are unable to come to church because of illness or infirmity. Visitors leave our services with kits containing consecrated sacraments and conduct abbreviated services in homes, the hospital or nursing homes. Through this sacramental ministry, we extend our church services in recognition that "we who are many are one body, for we all share one bread, one cup." Visitors also have a pastoral role, offering their presence in a way that can bring hope and even healing to those who may feel isolated or lonely. Usually visitors leave feeling that they have received far more than they have given. If you are interested in serving as Eucharistic Visitor or wish to be added to the list of those who receive, please contact Deacon Marc Genty.

Lectors

Lectors assist in Sunday and special worship services by reading the first and second lessons. Training is provided. If you feel called to this ministry or have questions about it, please contact Carol McNamee.

Ushers

Ushers at St. Luke’s greet parishioners and newcomers as they enter church, hand out service bulletins and offer hospitality. Ushers seat people as needed, deliver the sacrament to the altar and direct people to communion.

Greeters

A Greeter extends a warm, loving welcome to all newcomers and visitors and to all of the members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church - both before and after all services. Our ministry involves ensuring that newcomers receive special attention and leave wanting to return to our church. In our ministry as greeters, we may be the ones who say the special words that help bring the newcomer to Christ. In addition, we set the welcoming and friendly tone of entry to St. Luke’s. We note those who are newcomers and are available to get their contact information and answer any questions. Scheduling for services is done on a quarterly basis, and participation is open to any member of the congregation. If you are interested in volunteering for this ministry, please contact Christina Moorcroft, 970-266-1150 (telephone) or email.
