MUSIC MINISTRY at St. Luke’s

Welcome to the St. Luke’s Music program. The music program has a lengthy tradition of excellence in the leadership of our worship services here at St. Luke’s. We encompass a broad range of ages and talent levels as well as a broad spectrum of musical styles. For information on participating in any of the activities below, please contact Tamara Schmiege at 970-493-7512 x 206 or via email.

Parish Choir

The Parish Choir of St. Luke’s sings at the 10:30 am worship service each Sunday (September through May). The Choir, consisting of 28 women and men, rehearses every Wednesday evening (7:00-8:30 pm) and on Sundays prior to worship (9:30-10:15 am). The Choir's repertoire includes anthems of the Anglican tradition, Psalm settings in Plainsong, Anglican Chant and Simplified Anglican Chant, and service music from The Hymnal 1982. Additionally, the St. Luke’s Choir regularly presents musical programs such as The Festival Service of Lessons and Carols, Choral Evensong and Choral Vespers Services in the Annual Bach Festival. The Parish Choir is open to adults and teens of all musical abilities. The choir accepts new singers throughout the year.

Youth Chorus and RSCM (Grades 2 through 12)

The Youth Chorus at St. Luke’s is an integral part of our continuing work of growing together. Children of all abilities in the second through twelfth grade are welcome to participate. The Youth Chorus sings once each month at the 10:30 am worship service (October through April). The Youth Chorus rehearses every Sunday after the 10:30 am worship (12:00-1:00 pm). St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is now an official affiliate of the Royal School of Church Music in America. The RSCM program is a graded sacred choir program for children entering grades 2 through 12. The curriculum teaches musical skills, music theory, sacred choral repertoire, how to use the voice well, what it means to belong to a choir, and how the choir plays a vital role in worship. When the Youth Chorus sings in worship, the children robe and process with St. Luke’s Parish Choir.

Cherub Choir (Grades Pre-K through 1)

Children in pre-school through first grade participate in special services throughout the year including All Saint's Sunday, Christmas Eve and Easter. The Choir rehearses only once before a Festival Service on the preceding Sunday. St. Luke’s Cherub Choir members move easily into the RSCM choir once they reach the second grade.

Music Camp

Children entering Pre-K (4 years old) through 5th grade of all musical abilities can attend the six-day camp at St. Luke’s. While at camp, children learn sacred songs, vocal singing techniques, music theory, musical rhythm essentials, and an introduction to musical instruments. They perform the musical during the 10:00 am worship service.  Music Camp will be held August 6-12, 2012 and August 5-11, 2013. Registration begins March 1st.

Instrumentalists

Instrumentalists are an integral part of our worship experience at St. Luke’s. There are a myriad of opportunities for both solo and ensemble playing in worship at St. Luke’s. Please contact Tamara Schmiege via email to learn more about musical opportunities at St. Luke’s.
