Christian Formation

Christian Formation at St. Luke’s is the active process for people of all ages through which the Spirit of God forms the human person in the image of God enabling them to engage the world on His behalf. We know this image as that which is concretely reflected in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus teaches us how to reflect on and respond to life based on a living relationship with God the Father through Christ. This living relationship is enhanced when we continue with the disciple’s teaching and with each other in dialogue.

At St. Luke’s we engage in our Christian formation in a variety of ways. With the exception of a modified schedule during the summer months, our Christian Formation experience during the school year includes Sunday Morning education programs between our two services (9:30 am until 10:15 am) for children and adults. Afterwards, while the older children join their families in church, those ages 4-8 can opt to extend their formation experience in Story Time and then later join their families in church for Communion.

St. Luke’s also offers a variety of programs during the week in the form of education programs, book studies, and fellowship events. These programs are led by either St. Luke’s clergy, lay members of the congregation, or outside speakers. Since our Christian Formation opportunities during the week vary, be sure to check the schedule for the current programs and times.

Godly Play

Our children, age 4-8, are invited to participate in this unique approach that invites children to wonder about God, themselves, and the world in a playful way. It invites them to enter into sacred stories figures and creative activities to seek and find answers to their faith question.

For more information regarding Godly Play, please visit The Center for the Theology of Childhood.

Upper Elementary

The Upper Elementary class for grades 3 through 6 guides children as they explore their faith and grow their knowledge of the Church and the Bible using a new curriculum entitled "Weaving God's Promises". The class meets in the church library.

Middle and High School

The Middle and High School class primarily focuses their time on real-world analysis of Biblical stories. Our teenagers learn about the Episcopal Church, Anglicanism, the Bible, and following Jesus so that they may live faithfully in such a formative time in their lives. The class meets in the Youth Room.
